NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS FOR YOUR CAR

January 10th, 2020 by

We all make New Year’s resolutions to improve our lives in some way. This year come up with a few 2020 new year’s resolutions for your car that may be achievable in just a matter of weeks. Taking care of your car will make you not only safer and a better driver, but make you feel better about spending time in this important investment.

Clean It Out

Some of us are naturals at keeping our cars clean while for many of us it’s an ongoing challenge. You’ll feel great going into this new year with a clean and decluttered car. Start by removing everything you no longer need, including extra winter wear, blankets, papers, receipts, and litter. Be sure to check and organize the glove compartment where you should keep important documents like your owner’s manual, insurance, and registration papers. Take some time to vacuum and wipe everything down, including windows and the dashboard. If cleaning is not your thing, treat yourself and detail your car at Hawkins Chevrolet.

Keep Up with Routine Maintenance

If it’s been some time since you’ve had your car maintained, you should probably go ahead and schedule a service appointment. At the very least, get an oil change, and while you’re there, you can request that they check other routine things like fluid levels, air filters, windshield wipers, and tires (including the spare). Brake pads should also be checked annually. Maintaining your car will make your car last longer and keep you and your family safe.

Avoid Distracted Driving

Distracted driving is any activity performed by a driver that not only diverts attention away from the task of driving, AND also increases the possibility of an accident. Driver distraction typically involves the following types

  • Visual – The driver looks somewhere other than the road
  • Auditory – the driver hears something not related to driving
  • Manual – the driver is doing something other than grasping the steering wheel
  • Cognitive – the driver’s mind wanders away from driving.

While TEXTING is one of the most serious and alarming distractions, people are also distracted by navigation or audio systems, phone calls, eating or drinking, putting on makeup, watching signs or actions outside of the car, or daydreaming. Make it a goal to reduce your distracted driving.

Be Courteous to Others on the Road

Driving is frustrating with traffic jams, construction, and poor drivers that cut you off. Learning to let people go in front of you and patience with others will make you a calmer, happier, and safer driver. Most of us could avoid being rushed and finding ourselves in uptight circumstances by simply leaving 5 to 10 minutes earlier than planned.

Trade In Your Old Car

You’ve cleaned up your car and organized all the important paperwork. Now may be a good time to think about making a new year’s resolution to finally trade it in for a new Chevrolet. Your miles are adding up, so think about checking out the new line of 2020 vehicles, or for a deal on remaining 2019 models. We also have a full selection of pre-owned models.
